Care from someone your loved one already knows and trusts
Careway is built on the family caregiver model. Instead of sending a stranger into the home, we help families make the person already providing care, whether that's an adult child, relative, friend or neighbor, the official paid caregiver through Pennsylvania Medicaid. Your loved one stays at home with familiar faces, and their caregiver gets paid for the work they're already doing.
Caregiver training and support
No certification or prior experience is needed to get started. Careway provides training after enrollment and stays involved for as long as you're providing care, handling recertifications, answering questions and solving problems along the way. When you call our Pittsburgh office, you speak with a real person who knows your case.
Matching
In most cases, the family chooses its own caregiver. Caregivers must be over 18, legally able to work in the U.S., and a family member, friend or neighbor of the person receiving care (spouses and powers of attorney are not eligible). When no family caregiver is available, Careway can connect eligible families with trained professional caregivers in select areas.
What makes Careway different
We handle the paperwork: eligibility checks, Medicaid forms and approvals.
Reliable payroll: 100% on-time weekly direct deposit, with optional daily pay.
Fast switching: families moving from another agency can switch in as little as 24 to 48 hours.
Pennsylvania only: we serve 23 counties across Western and Central PA and know the state's programs inside and out.

Exact rates may vary based on the level of care required, your location, and the caregiver's experience.
Understanding Coverage: Standard Medicare generally does not cover non-medical home care (like help with bathing or meal prep). Medicaid waivers or VA benefits may cover these services if you qualify.
Rates and payment options are provided by the agency and are subject to change. Always verify current pricing directly with the provider before starting care.

Careway Home Care is a licensed Pennsylvania home care agency that helps families get paid through Medicaid to care for the loved ones they're already looking after. Based in Pittsburgh, Careway serves more than 500 families across 23 counties in Western and Central Pennsylvania.
We handle the entire process, from checking eligibility and filing Medicaid paperwork to setting up weekly payroll, so caregivers can focus on the person they're caring for. Careway is licensed by the PA Department of Health, enrolled as a Medicaid provider with the PA Department of Human Services, and is a Community HealthChoices network provider with UPMC, PA Health & Wellness, and AmeriHealth Caritas.
Careway was founded by Martin Werzberger after he cared for a family member himself. Going through the process firsthand, he saw how often home care agencies failed families on the basics: payroll that showed up late, support that disappeared after enrollment, and caregivers forced to choose between looking after someone they love and paying their own bills.
He started Careway to fix those problems. The goal was simple: build the full-service agency he wished his own family had, one that enrolls caregivers quickly, pays them on time every week, and stays with them for as long as they're providing care.
There's no place like home. We believe people do best when they can stay in their own homes, cared for by the people who know them best. That's why Careway focuses on helping family members, friends, and neighbors become paid caregivers.
Our approach is guided by a few simple principles:
We've been in your shoes. Careway was started by a family caregiver, and we understand what families are going through.
We listen first. Every family's situation is different, and we take the time to understand yours.
We walk alongside you. Our support doesn't end after enrollment. We're here for recertifications, questions, and anything else that comes up.
Promises get kept here. On-time weekly payroll isn't a marketing line. It's how we operate.
