How we source our data
HomeCareAtlas is a free directory of home care and home health agencies. We don't sell leads. We don't charge families. Here's where the information on each agency's page comes from, and how to check it yourself.
What HomeCareAtlas is
We're an independent directory. Anyone can search for free. We don't take payments to rank one agency above another.
We make money by selling software to agencies (scheduling, compliance, shift coverage) — not by selling your contact info to them.
Where the data comes from
Every listing falls into one of three buckets. The labels on each agency page tell you which bucket it's in.
1. Pulled from a state registry
We import the agency from a state licensing list. The agency hasn't signed up with us. The license details are real — they came from the state. Most other sections will be empty or short.
2. Pulled from a state registry, then claimed
We imported the agency from a state list. Later, someone from the agency signed up and added their story, services, pricing, and so on. The license came from the state. Everything else came from the agency.
3. The agency signed up directly
The agency added themselves. We didn't match them to a state registry record. Everything on the page is what the agency told us. We have not independently confirmed it.
How to tell which bucket a listing is in:
- Look for the green Verified badge by the agency name. It shows on buckets 1 and 2. It does not show on bucket 3.
- Look for the small caption under each section heading. “Source: [State Authority]” means we got it from the state. “Provided by the agency” means the agency wrote it.
What “Verified” means and doesn't mean
The Verified badge means one thing: we found the agency in a public state licensing registry.
It does not mean:
- That we checked the caregivers' backgrounds.
- That we confirmed the agency's insurance is current.
- That we know anything about the quality of their care.
Always ask the agency for proof of insurance, ask how they screen caregivers, and call references before signing a contract.
How to check an agency yourself
Every state runs its own home care licensing list. Search the state where the agency operates. If they're licensed, they'll show up.

See something wrong?
If a listing has the wrong phone number, the wrong address, or something else that doesn't match reality, tell us. Send a correction and we'll review it.
