Agency counts: For states with a dedicated license or registration (like New York, California, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania), we pulled exact counts from official state registries. For states without a registry, we estimated based on IBISWorld industry data (2026), CMS provider lists, and major directories. States marked “Business license only” are harder to count precisely because they do not require a state-specific license.
Hourly rates: Median hourly rates for non-medical caregiver services are sourced from the CareYaya 2025 state-by-state analysis and cross-referenced with the CareScout (formerly Genworth) 2025 Cost of Care Survey ($35/hr national median).
Market score: A composite score (0-100) we calculate from three factors: demand (elder population per agency — fewer agencies per elder = more opportunity), margin percentage, and margin dollars per hour. Weights: 40% demand, 35% margin %, 25% margin $/hr. Higher scores indicate more attractive markets for new agencies. Green (70+) = strong, amber (50-69) = moderate, gray (<50) = competitive or thin-margin.
