At Silver Linings Agency, we believe good home care starts with understanding the person receiving it. We take time to learn about each client's daily routines, preferences, individual needs, and family situation before developing a personalized care plan.
Our process begins with a free in-home consultation, where we discuss the support needed and what the client and their family hope to accomplish. Each care plan is reviewed and approved by our co-owner, Melissa Bicknell, a Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 15 years of healthcare experience, including extensive experience in long-term care.
All of our caregivers are certified Personal Support Specialists (PSS) or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). We match caregivers with clients based on experience, personality, and compatibility, not simply availability. Our goal is to build consistent, comfortable relationships where caregivers become familiar with each person's routines and preferences.
We provide non-medical support ranging from a few hours per week to 24-hour care. Services include personal care, dementia and memory care, mobility assistance, companionship, meal preparation, household support, and transportation.
Our care management team remains involved after services begin, supporting caregivers, staying connected with families, and adjusting care plans as needs change.
As a locally owned agency serving Greater Bangor, our focus is on providing dependable, personalized care that helps people maintain their comfort, dignity, and independence at home, while giving families confidence that their loved ones have the support they need.

Silver Linings Agency is a locally owned, state-licensed home care agency serving seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Greater Bangor, Maine.
We provide non-medical in-home care ranging from a few hours of assistance each week to 24-hour support. Our services include personal care, dementia and memory care, mobility assistance, companionship, transportation, meal preparation, and household support.
Our agency is led by Melissa Bicknell, a Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 15 years of healthcare experience, much of it in long-term care. Every caregiver is certified as a Personal Support Specialist (PSS) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
We take a personalized approach to care, beginning with an in-home consultation to understand each client's needs, routines, and preferences. Care plans are reviewed and approved by our nurse practitioner, and caregivers are matched based on experience and compatibility.
Our management team remains involved throughout care, coordinating schedules, supporting caregivers, communicating with families, and adjusting care as needs change.
Our goal is simple: to help people live safely, comfortably, and independently in their own homes while providing families with dependable support they can count on.
Silver Linings Agency is owned by siblings Melissa Bicknell and Michael Pare, who took ownership of the agency in January 2025.
Our interest in home care came from personal experience. When a member of our own family needed assistance at home, we experienced firsthand how difficult it could be to arrange dependable care.
We initially worked with home care agencies but struggled to find an arrangement that met our family's needs. Eventually, we began hiring caregivers directly. We found wonderful people who provided excellent care, but managing everything ourselves presented a different set of challenges.
When a caregiver was sick, took a vacation, or needed time off, it was up to us to find coverage. We were responsible for coordinating schedules, managing unexpected changes, and making sure our family member always had the support they needed. In many ways, we found ourselves running a small home care agency.
That experience shaped our vision for Silver Linings. We wanted to combine the personal relationships and quality of care we had found with independent caregivers with the reliability and support of a professionally managed agency.
Melissa brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience to the business, having worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Registered Nurse, and Family Nurse Practitioner, including as a provider and clinical director in long-term care.
Together, we've focused on building an agency that provides the kind of care and dependable support we wanted for our own family.
At Silver Linings Agency, our goal is to help people who wish to remain at home do so safely, comfortably, and with as much independence as possible. We believe good care should fit into a person's life, respecting their routines, preferences, and the things that matter most to them.
We take a person-centered approach, recognizing that every client has different needs, preferences, and expectations. We listen to clients and their families, develop individualized care plans, and match caregivers based on experience, personality, and compatibility. We believe that consistency and familiarity are essential to building trust and helping clients feel comfortable receiving care.
We also believe that dependable care requires more than a good caregiver. Families should have the support of an agency that takes responsibility for coordinating schedules, addressing concerns, arranging coverage, and responding when needs change. Our care management team remains actively involved, and every care plan is reviewed and approved by our nurse practitioner co-owner.
Our caregivers support clients with dignity and respect, encouraging independence wherever possible while providing assistance when it's needed. Whether someone requires occasional help with daily activities or around-the-clock support, our goal is to provide reliable, thoughtful care that allows them to continue living well at home.
